Tom Millen Receives Distinguished Hoosier Award

Indiana Search & Rescue Association Secretary-Treasurer Thomas Millen has been recognized by Indiana Governor Mitchell Daniels with the Distinguished Hoosier Award.
Mr. Millen received the award during an awards ceremony at the Annual Dining Out of the Indiana Guard Reserve, which was held in Liberty Hall of the Indianapolis Marriott East on April 2, 2011. Mr. Millen is a First Lieutenant in the Indiana Guard Reserve and responsible for its search & rescue program. Presenting the award on behalf of the Governor were Brigadier General John P. McGoff, Chief of Staff of the Indiana Air National Guard, and Major General F. Barry Green, Commander, Indiana Guard Reserve.
Mr. Millen received this special recognition for his outstanding support and significant contributions to volunteer search and rescue in Indiana over the past thirty years. During that time, Mr. Millen used his own financial and time resources to obtain nationally recognized instructor-level search & rescue training and bring these training programs back to Indiana volunteer and professional first responders. His notable efforts in the areas of training and search management have contributed greatly to increasing the preparedness and professionalism of search & rescue volunteers. Mr. Millen is a member, former board member, and past Vice President for Education of the National Association for Search and Rescue, charter member and past president of the Indiana Search and Rescue Association, and primary developer of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security ground search & rescue training program.
