2017 INSARA Members Survey

The INSARA Executive board is looking for feedback about the future of INSARA.  We put together a survey for members of INSARA to let us know what they want to see INSARA do.  You should have received an email with the survey (if you didn't the URL is https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8XCTKVF).  Please forward the survey out to your members so they can fill out the survey.  

The ultimate goal of this survey is to attempt to better understand how you and your members would like to see INSARA do in the future and how INSARA can be helpful to you and your team in the future.

2 minute emergency shelter building workshop

You’ll leave the class having built an emergency shelter (that is quick to setup) for your search pack.      Don’t you hate it when Indiana weather changes fast and you are 3+ miles from your truck?  Or worse you find a missing person in good condition and operations asks you to shelter in place until sunrise!    No worries, this shelter requires no trees or ropes to setup.   Best of all you can be in it and dry before your crewmate starts snoring!    Watch the You Tube video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pneD0wu8O3w  ) to see how easy it is to setup.     We will provide all the parts,  tools and instruction to allow you make this tarp shelter.     Besides leaving with an easy to setup shelter  in your search pack, you’ll have a quality tarp that can be used for other needs, we’ll even show you a few other versions of shelters you can make with the same tarp.    

 

$35 for INSARA members, $40 for non-INSARA members.  Instructors: Tymme Laun, Joel Grant (both have a background in building/modifying SAR gear and general fabrication), When: 3/19/16, 10:30AM on the West side of Bloomington.   Maximum class size 16.    Signup for this class closes March 12.

NASAR - MLPI

The Managing the Lost Person Incident (MLPI) course is designed to teach the essential knowledge and skills necessary to perform as the initial response Incident Commander on a lost person incident with the primary focus on the Search element of SAR. The course prepares the student for the management responsibilities and leadership skills required during SAR missions. The course explains the tasks and procedures needed to effectively manage SAR operations from the initial response through the expansion phases of the search to the final demobilization of all resources. This is the first true management course of the NASAR series of SAR courses. The ISAR, FUNSAR, and ADSAR courses focus on the individual and crew responsibilities as well as techniques and tactics at the crew level, whereas, the MLPI course explains and describes in detail the overall objectives, strategies, and tactics needed for a successful outcome of SAR missions. With further incident management training and field experience; the person with this training can perform as the Incident Commander on prolonged and more complex searches. The recommended duration of the course is thirty-two (32) class hours. This course may be taught over two weekends or straight through over four days. Extra practical exercises can be added and may increase the time to 40 class hours.

The cost of this course will cover the books, and the certification.  

This is a 2 weekend course, attendance at all courses is required for certification.

April 30th, 9am - 5pm

May 1st, 9am - 5pm

May 21st, 9am - 5pm

May 22nd, 9am - 5pm

Requirements: either completion of FUNSAR or SARTECH II is required to take this course.  Please contact director.academy@insara.org with any questions or waivers.

ISAR Classes Available

INSARA has posted an ISAR courses which are now open to the public. The class is Nov 21st and 22nd (sign up here).  The fees for the course cover the NASAR fee, the purchase and shipping of the book, and the NASAR SARTECH III certificate!  Hurry only 30 slots available for each session!
